The Kendriya Vidyalayas which comes under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) are a system of central government schools in India. It is affiliated by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and has presence of 1,094 schools in India and three abroad which makes it one of world’s largest chain of schools across globe. It starts in 1963 as Central Schools which later changed to Kendriya Vidyalayas with motive of giving quality education to children of Indian Defence Services personnel who are often posted in remote locations. Now, when Army has started it’s own school system named “Army Public School”, Admission in Kendriya Vidyalaya are extended to children of all central government employees as well as civilians with priority given to children of government employees first and post that with lottery system.
A uniform curriculum is followed by all schools all over India. By providing a common syllabus and system of education, the Kendriya Vidyalayas are intended to ensure that the children of government employees do not face education disadvantages when their parents are transferred from one location to another. The schools have been operational for more than 50 years
